Prayagraj: Stampede at Mahakumbh, Dozens Dead

A massive stampede broke out during the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya at the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, resulting in the death of 30 people and injuring 60 others.
According to DIG Mahakumbh Vaibhav Krishna, 25 victims have been identified, while the identification of the remaining 5 bodies is underway. Among the injured, 36 people have been hospitalized, while others were given first aid and discharged.
How Did the Incident Happen?
Authorities stated that a large crowd of devotees gathered for the Amrit Snan during Brahma Muhurat. Some people broke barricades to move forward, leading to a stampede where several devotees were trampled.
Administrative Actions Taken:
Police immediately launched rescue operations.
90 injured were taken to hospitals.
The Mela area was declared a no-vehicle zone.
Entry of vehicles was restricted at district borders, and four-wheeler entry was banned in the city.
