WhatsApp Calls Restored in Saudi Arabia After 6 Years – Permanent or Temporary?

WhatsApp users in Saudi Arabia are now able to make voice and video calls again after a six-year hiatus.
According to Arab media reports, citizens of Saudi Arabia can now make video calls on this app after six years. However, questions are being raised about whether this change will be permanent or temporary.
Lifting restrictions on voice and video calls via WhatsApp is surprising, as Saudi authorities had not made any official announcement regarding this beforehand.
Technology expert Abdullah Al-Sabii stated that this step aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to enhance telecommunications and digital infrastructure, ultimately improving communication for users.
The world’s most popular messaging app, WhatsApp, introduced voice calls in 2015 and video calls in 2016. However, due to regulatory policies, these features were blocked in Saudi Arabia in 2019.
While users are welcoming this change, uncertainty remains about the long-term availability of this feature, as the government has not yet provided any official confirmation.
