People of all religions live across the globe. It is true that in many countries, followers of a particular religion are in the majority. In Islamic countries like Pakistan, the Muslim population exceeds 99%. But did you know that Islam is currently the most widely accepted religion worldwide?
Are people converting to religions? It is difficult to say which religion is being accepted the most globally. However, the steady increase in the number of people converting to Islam indicates that many are embracing the faith. For example, according to a report, approximately 6,000 people accept Islam annually in the UK, with the majority of them being women. According to the Huffington Post, around 20,000 Americans convert to Islam every year. Pew Research indicates that in the U.S., the number of people accepting Islam is nearly equal to those leaving the religion.
The Pew Research Center’s study on “The Future of World Religions” estimates that by 2050, Islam will become the world’s largest religion. However, Pew data also shows that there is a region where the Muslim population may decline by about 9%. This region is the Asia-Pacific, where the Muslim population was 61.7% in 2010 and is expected to drop to 52.8% by 2050. Similarly, the Muslim population in Europe may also decrease by 2050. Additionally, the global Muslim population is projected to reach around 2.7 billion in 2050, which was also the approximate figure in 2010.
