AMU Beef Biryani Controversy: University Notice Goes Viral 2025

University Notice Goes Viral on Social Media, Sparks Controversy
A controversy has erupted at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) over the alleged serving of beef biryani. The university had issued a notice on Sunday regarding the serving of beef biryani at Sir Shah Sulaiman Hall.
This notice has now gone viral on social media, triggering a heated debate.
BJP leader Dr. Nishtha Sharma has alleged that this notice is a shameful act by the AMU administration.
He further stated that the notice mentions replacing chicken biryani with beef biryani at Sir Shah Sulaiman Hall, which indicates that the administration is encouraging radical elements.
Reports suggest that an FIR has been registered in this matter, and the police will conduct a thorough investigation.
As the controversy escalated, the AMU administration issued a clarification. They stated that it was a typographical error, and chicken biryani would continue to be served as usual.
Additionally, the university administration has issued a notice to the responsible authorities, asking for an explanation regarding the mistake.
It is worth noting that a similar controversy had erupted at the university before.
The incident dates back to 2016 when a dispute arose over the alleged serving of beef biryani at the university. The food menu reportedly included beef biryani,
but the university had clarified that it had actually listed “buff meat” instead.
Many people are unaware of the difference between beef and buff meat, even though there is a clear distinction. Simply put, “beef” refers to the meat of cows, calves, bulls, and buffaloes.
All of these are categorized under beef. However, there is also a separate category called “buff meat,” which includes only buffalo meat.
