Court Issues Notice to Asaduddin Owaisi Over Palestine Remarks

Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh: A court in Bareilly has issued a notice to All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi, directing him to appear before the court.

Owaisi, while taking his oath as a Member of Parliament, had raised slogans in support of Palestine. In this matter, the court has issued a notice against him.

The court has ordered the AIMIM chief to appear for the hearing on January 7, 2025.

The case was filed by advocate Virendra Gupta, who has accused Owaisi of violating constitutional and legal principles.

Earlier, in June, Asaduddin Owaisi, during his swearing-in as a Member of Parliament, concluded his oath by mentioning “Palestine.”

Owaisi defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Madhavi Latha in the recent parliamentary elections by a margin of 3,38,087 votes and secured the MP seat from Hyderabad, Telangana, for the fifth consecutive time.

During the 18th session of the Lok Sabha, while taking his oath as a Member of Parliament, Owaisi concluded with the words, “Jai Bhim, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine.” He questioned, “How is this against the law? Show me a clause in the Constitution that prohibits this.”

When asked why he said “Jai Palestine,” Owaisi stated, “The people there are helpless, and Mahatma Gandhi has written and spoken a lot about Palestine. Anyone can read about it.”
